STUDENT ELIGIBILITY + TIMELINE

Who’s eligible to apply?

Applicants must meet the following requirements to be eligible for our Apprenticeships program:

  • High school graduate or GED

  • Live in the Charlotte area

  • Must be between the ages of 19 and 26

  • Must have the authorization to work in the U.S.

  • Must be a member of an underrepresented group in tech

Specific apprenticeships may have additional requirements, so be sure to check the application for the apprenticeship you’re interested in.

Do I have to live near the city where the apprenticeship is?

Because our apprenticeship is 3 days a week in person and 2 offered virtually, Road to Hire targets individuals living in the Charlotte area.

Is there a minimum GPA requirement for Road to Hire?

There is no specific GPA requirement. We look for candidates who demonstrate a strong work ethic.

Is there an age requirement for the Road to Hire program?

Yes. We’re looking for motivated young adults in the Charlotte area between the ages of 19 and 26. (You must turn 19 prior to graduating from the program.)

Is work authorization required to be eligible for Road to Hire?

Because our mission is to create employment opportunities for motivated young adults, work authorization is a program requirement. This means you must have the authorization to work without sponsorship or restrictions for any employer in the U.S.

What do successful candidates look like?

The most successful candidates are self-starters who can operate independently yet aren’t afraid to ask questions.

Do I need to know how to code before I apply?

No. We’re looking for young adults who are passionate about technology and love solving problems. We’ll teach you the rest!

What is the program timeline or schedule?

Road to Hire has high standards of performance and accountability for all participants, and our R2H Apprenticeships program has been intentionally crafted to set you up for success. In order to ensure that you have the best possible learning experience, your consistent attendance is required.

Road to Hire Apprenticeships is a six-month program that runs from 9am-5pm Monday through Friday. In addition to classroom lectures, participants will watch weekly videos, attend breakout sessions and complete challenging assignments. Participants may be assigned work outside of the program’s 35-40 hours/week to tackle additional projects and challenges as well.

ROAD TO HIRE PROGRAM BENEFITS

Does Road to Hire provide compensation or housing?

Road to Hire participants will receive a weekly stipend during training, followed by full-time pay and benefits (including health insurance) upon securing a job after graduation. Road to Hire does not pay for housing.

Does every Road to Hire participant get a job?

Our goal is to provide every successful Road to Hire apprentice with the opportunity for a high-earning career. Every apprentice will have the chance to interview with at least one of our employer partners. Historically, over 90% of our apprentices were hired in their desired field with one of these partners.

Is the Road to Hire program a competition?

No. Although we believe competition is healthy, our goal is to give all Road to Hire apprentices the opportunity to interview for full-time jobs in the Charlotte area once they complete the program.

Are there any costs associated with Road to Hire?

No. Road to Hire covers all training costs.

Is this a paid program?

Yes. The R2H Apprenticeships program is a six-month, full-time, paid position.

ROAD TO HIRE APPLICATION PROCESS

What happens after I submit my application?

All applications will be carefully reviewed. Candidates will be notified via email if they are selected to move forward in the interview process.

What should I do if I haven't heard back about my application, but the date for feedback has passed?

Please check your spam/junk mail folders to see if you’ve received an email from Road to Hire. Email info@roadtohire.org if you’re unable to find it.

Are recommendation letters required?

No. Recommendation letters are not required.
